I also assume that the killed activity A is a possible issue. Have you tried to force kill activity B as well by enabling the "don't keep activities" setting in the dev options? I would assume that this will also mean that the transition from C back to B will break too.
Not really an idea but I would think about if you really need so many activities and if you can't switch to one activity and multiple fragments instead. I think that would solve that is…
