myendpoint/postData?param1=somevalue&param2=someothervalue , the backend guy designed this API as a POST request. Does it make sense? It's throwing Timeout error, integrated with Retroit with @Field annotations.

a standard is not some kind of stone built law, in the end you must use what you're given. if backend works that way, so be it. as long as it's consistent with it's non compliance, and it's documented, it's ok.

he/they created their own spec out of necessity. it's fine. nobody's gonna judge them as long as it keeps working that way, is documented, and doesn't mix concepts (uses the custom built on some endpoints, and REST standards on others).

sometimes browsers do additional stuff for optimization, and most modern JS frameworks tend to take that into consideration

like for streaming, before sending the "get" request, they send a "head" request (which is not on the rfc) to calculate the size
