now my AMD machine with Win11 is the only Desktop I have around

are you using fTPM?

if so I'd just buy a hardware TPM (which is what I did)

I do have a TPM module, but I don't know if the AMD machine mainboard has a slot for that

and yes I am usign fTPM

so here's the fun... there are two different standards for desktop hardware TPMs

14-1 and SPI

fortunately I happened to buy the right type for my ASUS mobos (14-1)

I actually bought the TPM for my Intel machine, but that had an i7 6700K which was not supported regardless of TPM

Also the new macbook that I have bought feels not much different to the one that I have bought 10 years ago with 1/3 of the price. But then again, I have not used it for any computational intensive tasks, i.e. training a neural net ...

@PeterT You can build a spare system with rpi and a small monitor, you can get the whole system for less than 200 euro (including speaks, mic & a bunch of other sensors).
