Will Rust replace C++ in the future?

@MangaD Maybe. But if so, I think it'll take a fair amount of time. C++ is heavily entrenched in quite a few areas where it takes a long time to replace one thing with another.

There is also Go, which apparently seeks to replace C++ as well.

Go made itself a nice niche in networked services land. I think it fares well there, not so sure about other places.

I will keep programming if Rust or nim replace C++. I'm going to think long and hard about my life before I write Go for a living though.

@MangaD IMO, Go mostly isn't a viable replacement for C++. I'd think of it more like an alternative to something like Ruby or Python for heavily used web back-end stuf. It compares well to them on that basis.

@Morwenn At least half the new languages for decades have claimed pretty much that (going at least as far back as Java).

Most of the successful ones tried to be more than C, not to replace it

@Morwenn I think most people would think of it primarily in terms of being used for the same kinds of tasks/purposes.

I would, however, agree if you said some (maybe even most) of them had rather distorted ideas of what a viable replacement for C would look like though.
