@StackedCrooked Isolate it so you get [polynomial] = 0. Then factor the polynomial into N terms, one of which must be 0. In this case, you get X^2-6x-16 = 0. Factor that into (x+2)(x-8)=0. From there we get either X= -2 or X=8 satisfying the original equation.

@TelKitty Sounds about right. But when junior high school was decades ago, and you've never used it since...

I do remember a lot of the maths and physics I learn from high school. Maybe because those are the knowledge we use often in real life.

I mean, for example, if you run into a bear or a bear ram into you. Given the initial velocity and direction of you and the bear and your respective mass, you can kind of calculate where you will end up to be if the bear sort of stop after ram into you.

Although bears seem to be more interested in stealing your food than ram into you.

Hopefully I will be finally over the jet lag tomorrow. Friday was awful - like got home in the morning, then trying to stay awake until 7:45pm when I finally went to bed. If I fell asleep in between it would be worse. But I couldn't get anything done because I was too tired. Yesterday was better but it still felt weird.

I have started disliking travel around the same time I got my gold membership with Singapore airline - I had to travel quite a bit for a previous workplace. Travel around the world used to be my fantasy when I was younger, until I had to, then I realised that I really didn't like travel all that much. Unfortunately I also love nature and all those nature attractions would not move to my door step.
