@RMartinhoFernandes True that. Still, I’ve been thinking about using the Gists to actually store the posts and associated comments, since Gist supports that out of the box, and has a dead-simple API

but this would mean writing an own JavaScript client for the comment system

Disqus uses JSONP (or something similar), I'm not sure if GH Gists support that.

@KonradRudolph they inject a script element on your page which contains JSON wrapped in a callback. When they inject the script, the callback gets called automatically and it runs some code with the JSON data.

or am I overlooking something? I didn’t do serious JavaScript programming since before JSON was a thing

and consequently I have almost no idea about XSS protection, same-domain policy and any of that stuff

Browsers only do AJAX calls to the same domain.

If I want a simple blog I'd put it on Heroku and write it using Node.js or in Ruby.

@RadekSlupik Not in a Markdown gist. You host the actual blog content as gists, and additionally a JavaScript which pulls this content via JSON, also as a (raw) gist. You then have a simple static GitHub page which has a <script> tag where the src points to the JavaScript gist
