rpm is the app that installs RPMs. An RPM is a package. you can think of it kinda like an .msi in windows, but much spiffier since it can say which other packages it depends on.

one of the other big package managers is APT (the one most derivatives of Debian use)

which uses a whole other type of packages too, so it's not compatible with RPMs without installing extra stuff

if you can run apt-get, your system uses APT

Hi, I'm a student working on a socket programming assignment for class. I'm developing my code on Solaris, but I'm running into problems with connect() and send(). I compiled the same code on Ubuntu, and the problems go away.

and they can't reproduce it if the sample is not compilable.

so it should be as small as possible but must include everything they need- header includes, usings, etc.
