Point is, I use a library that already does locking, and its documentation doesn't say I am allowed to override the method that does the locking. It's a design flaw (locking should be a responsibility of the concrete subclass, and only if it even has to do it), IMO, but I have to deal with it.

my parents were never interested in buying me proper hardware and games like my colleagues had, so I had to find a job
