There isn't such a thing like real limit but limit exists. All pointers are variables that are storing in stack not heap. An int* and an int********** have the same size, at least on reasonable architectures.

Yeah - if I was a compiler, faced with 100 '*', I would issue a 'Suspected stupid code' warning and then generate a 0-99 loop that dereferences and overwrites one pointer var each time round.
