I'm finding myself getting carried away marking methods as const that probably ought not to be - I'm currently writing a C++ wrapper for a C library.

Imagine a class that represents a socket - should a disconnect() method be marked const? Technically it doesn't modify any member variables (the implementation is somewhere else) but... as I understand it, const methods indicate that the instance will be in the same state as it was before the method was invoked.

If I was you, I'd go for connect/disconnect changes the state, but sending doesn't. Note that streams do it differently. But then, streams are stupid.
