The only way I could see that being useful is if someone were to try to hack someone with a known name (with an assumed common username being first initial + last name) and did not have access to the database

Probably because the arbiters of what is considered "serious" or "worthy" new music tend to be extremely familiar with older styles and as a result easily bored by anything they see as derivative.

The ease of information archival makes reinventing the wheel much less impressive than it would have been in past centuries.

One would think that modern music is more derivative than older styles. 2010's music derives from 00's music, 90's music, 80's music... 1500s music. The farther back you go, the less you have to borrow from.

The thing is, once you deviate enough from an older style that the music you produce is once again interesting enough to be taken seriously, people start calling it by some other name.

Like post-punk instead of punk, or what have you.
