Well nobody's going to buy the Lumias because of their design, imo they only look "Premium" once you've applied the Mozo case to get the metallic edges, otherwise they just look plasticy

I can't decide which is better though, like my 930 with the metal edge and non-removable cover orrrrrrrr the ability to change it up + MicroSD

Guess it depends on how good the Mozo cases really are :D

Kent is nice though starting to get nearly as expensive as london

so keep that in mind when you do move there

if you intend to get a job in london, then you'll have an hour or a bit over travel at least but expense shuold work out

if you intend to work in kent, then this may be harder to match on expenses

Looping for timer based activity -- sounds like a job for Quartz.net (nuget it)

have it do the heavy lifting and just raise the event when its done and then subscribe to it pushing updates to UI as needed

Hey, what's the recommended method of view navigation in MVVM? The approach I'm thinking is changing tabs, on a button command under certain conditions.

Derive from NavigationWindow, and use that Window's underlying NavigationService to navigate to other xaml pages.

If you don't necessarily need back and forth like a browser navigation, ContentControl + DataTemplates are another way to go

whenever somebody thinks of changing tabs to switch views, ContentControl+DataTemplate approach is what they're normally looking for

but of course it lacks the Navigation stack like a browser... so depends on what you need

Yes vm per tab is the way to go

but your description still says ContentControl + DataTemplate is the way to go

there's no need to check if the user selected anything, because if he didn't - there'd be no datatemplate to show anything and thus no content

no need to deal with disable/enable / show right content - wpf will do all that based off the class type

your scenario is typical Master Detail scenario (you can search for this pattern name to see examples)

so yea that'd be my recommendation

my experience with wpf has taught me that the more segmented your view models are the easier it is to develop

the window should still have its own data context, but each tab should as well

as julien said, you will have per tab vm.. if you are so insistent on taking the wrong route

but it'll be a hierarchy

you will always have a WindowVM - that then holds other vms for more specialized collections and scenarios

a ViewModel is nothing but a facilitator on top of your model that adds things that are useful to the view and only the view generally

ok I'm interested in hearing the best route, you mentioned "ContentControl + DataTemplate" which is what I'm looking into at the moment

well its just googling it out now

you could for example have a page that holds a single content control, which is essentially a place holder

and then use data triggers to decide what content that placeholder should show

DataTriggers -- for once they didn't cross my mind -- clearly i've been away from wpf far too long :)

for eg, a single page with a content control that shows a login page when not logged in, and a main page when you are logged in

that is a control i have beside a listbox that shows something when no item is selected in the listbox

there is another setter for when something is selected, i stripped it out

Julien, that Trigger Converter you used, you shuold use it as Default style & then override with trigger

so <Style><Setter> and then Style.Trigger-> <setter> will override it as you need it to on case by case

but thank you for sharing actual code snippet.. i'm sure that helps in getting the idea across much better than just words :)
