@Victor do you have a slow disk, bunch of files or a Git repo with a big history or other processes modifying the files? usual culprits

The problem is always with JS code.

@FilipDupanović it was not a typo. I had an if checking if a layer is open. if it's open, but no this.layer is set, then it is created and the scroll is disabled. I put the disableScroll() outside the inner if, and I was called more than necessary.

@Victor because it's phpstorm. It's written in Java.

we spend a bunch of money on a site license for IDEA, but nobody uses it anymore

@Victor TL;DR if you want a sexy editor that you will be using 10 years from now, go for Atom

they don't support as many languages as other editors and a bunch of the language plugins are broken/use their own read-only styles

@FilipDupanović atom does not have such good code indexing as phpstorm has

the editor window lags constantly, especially on mid/large projects

I use atom for Hack, because phpstorm cannot use it

Atom has pretty good hinting, just slightly less than vim or IDEA

@ssube do you recommend any specific plugins? I guess they are the actual power of atom

@Victor I use the vim keybinding plugin and a few language plugins

@Victor it has both autocomplete from words in the same file and full intellisense-style completion based on parsing headers and your whole project

Does anyone here have experience with electron? I try to use window.open, which does return a BrowserWindowProxy, but there is no window anywhere... any ideas? Is it hidden?

The docs say you use window.open, and it works on a vanilla electron app, just not this specific one using react, which is already based on someone else's boilerplate

I did the full Vim setup, with vim-united, Nerd Fonts, the works

yeah definitely vim for remote file editing (and local too but that's another war)

getting emacs in the mix is like the opposite of going from phpstorm to vim/atom

@ssube because getting everything working in Vim, like editing JS, JSX in the same buffer, it's a real PITA

tbh, I wouldn't bother trying to embed a terminal in atom

I just use tmux and atom

@FilipDupanović Found the problem: I think the configuration of a BrowserWindowProxy inherits from the browser window it spawned from, and mine seemed to have { show: false }

how come when i do the "alert();" on my webpage the alert comes up as my domain name says:

use the console, the alerts can be annoying on some clients

not debugging. just when i click my "add" button i want the value to pop up

@NathanMarotta ah, that's a browser "feature". It is so that you can't just do alert("Windows is ready for an update. Please click here...") etc. to trick the user.

you just take log level as a query param or server setting passed to the client
