Is it good to use Singleton class in android as far as performances issues and memory management is concerned? I have google and found some are in favour of it and some are against, so i want your opinion?

I didn't think it's a design for memory management though.

Well, in my opinion, it just let the programmer to encapsulate things in a more sensible way.

Like for eg. The creator of the third party library doesn't want to expose a certain constructor in public level so he use singleton instead?

I remember I have used that pattern as well. I have created a GUI framework before, (just my hobby), and then I was looking for a design pattern to meet my needs. I want to create like a factory of fonts.

I just want to make a general utility functions for my app, so I have basically three options

1. To use a simple class and define all functions there, wherever i need that specific function , i'll make an instance and get that function
2. Make a singleton class so that there will be single instance throughout the app and i don't have to create everytime a new instance

If you'll be passing a certain variable, like for example, the app's Context, it's much preferable to make an instance for every time you use it, otherwise, just go for the static ones. That's how I do it as well.

Yes. Because you'll get much redundancy in your code if you have always needs to pass the unnecessary variable:
For e.g.:
Debug.log(this, "Message here... double: %f", 2.0);

The this is the Context, see here, you always needs to pass the redundant unnecessary variable.

Wherein, you just needs to pass the String to be logged. That is why I said it's unnecessary.

If you'll be needing a function that does something, and which does not require an extra parameter, IMO, you could just make that function a member of that class.
If you, perhaps, see that instantiating the class itself, does not make a logical sense, then go with `Singleton`

You could look for the Toast class for example...

Go for the static or Singleton then. Don't use the usual way(member function) :)
